I am having an interesting problem with my Pacemaker Speed 4x5... The body release button does not fire the focal plane shutter when it is cocked and the selector is on "back", but on all settings (including trip, is it supposed to?) the front shutter linkage moves. Occasionally I can get a little movement from the FP shutter when the speed is set to 30 or T, but it seems like something is up with the body release. The shutter operates fine with the trip function. Any ideas?

The side switch has three positions:
Front=front body relase operates the cable to the front standard.
Rear=slide side switch to this position=front body release operates FPS.
Trip=press in on slide switch then up to trip FPS.

Not operating correctly: go to http://www.southbristolviews.com/
click on graflex manuals in left plane then download Pacemaker service manual and refer to FPS section.
Apply two or three drops of light maachine oil to front body release and operate several times. Apply two or three drops of light oil to the side switch and operate to all positions several times. Wind FPS to max and run down with the side switch two or three times with the govenor lever in each of its positions. If FPS does not operate smoothly apply one to two drops of light machine oil to each roller shaft end accessable from outside the camera, and retry. Problem not solved yet then remove the side cover per manual instructions and clean and lube the switch and body release from the inside and the other ends of FPS rollers and reassemble per instructions and retest.

Thanks for the help! As soon as I can locate some machine oil I will attempt your suggest actions. Do I apply the oil just under the switch and into the sides of the release, or does anything need to be removed for this first step? Also, how do I access the rollers for lubrication, if needed? Your post says they can be reached without disassembly, but I don't see how.

For lubing the body release button, the little satin chrome cover should have three fasteners, two on the side and one on the front. Pop this cover off and use a needle or mini sdriver to apply a small amount of light lubricant at the top and bottom. You will se the slides with the cover off.
I tend to use Tri-flo lube for this. Manipulate button a few times and wipe off excess. On the selector slide switch, I find a very small amount of light grease packed underneath it and then wipe around make this run much better, though I do this when completely dissassembled. It may be easier to use light lube as Charles suggested if not taking the unit apart; so you can see if you can get things working better...
As far as lubing the rollers, you can only lube the strap handle side through littel center line holes in the crhome brass roller inserts. The shutter release side can be lubed only by removing the cover plate. On either side only a small drop should do.

after reading your responces on the other site, remove the cover, check the levers and cla and reassemble via the service manual instructions. If you cannot follow them, print the manual sections and parts breakdowns and take both with the camera to a repair shop.
