How well do the Focal Plane shutters in Speed Graphics hold against the cold?

My shooting in winter months goes down quite a bit now since at 50 degrees, I can only expect to get an hour worth of shooting in before my rapax starts to get sluggish, and at close to feezing, that time goes down to about 10-15 minutes. If the FP can resist better, that would be swell.

I don't know about others around the country, but living here in Montana, it does have a tendancy to get cold, and I mean real cold....I don't remember my focal plane slowing down during cold weather, and I have shot outside at -20 degrees in Glacier National Park many times during the winter..

I don't think your focal plane shutter would be affected majorly. One of the men who participated in a semi-recent Mt. Everest climb took a stripped speed-graphic with him. I'm pretty sure that if a speed-graphic can handle mt. everest, it'll handle winter at sea level just fine =P.

How long since you had the Rapax CLA'd?

I'd have to track down previous owners to find out when the last CLA's were.

Could be due one being the cold is affecting it.

Yeah. I'm sure they are due. I have two Rapaxes, one synchro, and one non-synchro. Non-synchro one doesn't like the cold, and the synchro doesn't like to be used at 1/10th or slower.
